Your passing was to come

 the grief not diminished

a huge gaping hole opened up

on the Southern tip

where you

were the soundtrack to our stirrings

your music nudged us awake

crept into our dreams reminding us

to change the way we were

our country was

we dared not stay idle

your rhythms urged us forward

to feel what others feel be

who we were meant

to be

the drums beat our steps

moved through our bodies reminding us

of life

passion surged within calling us to live

love on this continent

in this country

 we shall not forget

that you held the torch which led us into the future
