Fynarts in Hermanus has become one of the highlights on my calendar.
Hermanus has always held a special place in my heart and I’ve been visiting this charming seaside resort for more years than I’d like to admit.
Many magical weekends were spent here and after swimming in the sea, learning how to prepare a fish for the braai, jogging along the famous path, dancing, talking, spotting whales in Spring, and making unforgettable memories, my friends and I would wind our back to our busy lives in Cape Town. Forty years later, I find myself living in this paradise! Who would have guessed? Perhaps, deep down in my subconscious, I did know. There is a passage in my novel, Under the African Sun, foreshadowing this. And this year, Penny Haw and I will be in conversation about this very same novel … at Fynarts on the 10th.
Life does have a way of coming full circle. I feel very blessed to be living here and taking part in Fynarts. No crystal ball could have predicted this … If you’ve been on the fence about driving through, I’d encourage you to seize the chance. There is so much on offer.
Oh, and if perchance you were present on one of those fabulous weekends with us, remember that what happened in Hermanus stays in Hermanus, right?
See you at the festival!
PS It’s a good idea to book tickets so as not to be disappointed by a sold out sign.
